~20200828~ Why I use the Brave browser and why you should, too (or at least give it a try).

~20200827~ i keep coming back to this geek playground. pure nostalgic fun. use vi to write raw html by hand -- what a joy the web can be!

~20200201~ two-month update on my cryptocurrency adventure. summary: it is fun. blog post.

~20191221~ long-time Android user, considering switching to iPhone to put some distance between myself and Google. At the same time wondering whether it will make any difference.

~20191216~ started playing with crypto, just getting my feet wet, to keep life interesting. market down today as much as 7.75%. interesting, indeed.

~20191126~ finished reading John le Carré's latest novel, "Agent Running in the Field". Dude still has it.

~20191110~ much more disheartening than the staggering amount of stupidity around me is the fact that a staggering number of people are PROUD TO BE STUPID.

~20191106~ started reading "An Absolutely Remarkable Thing" by Hank Green. 40 pages into it, i love every word.

~20191101~ daylight saving time is upon us, which means it is time to ask yet again: "why is DST still a thing?" what and / or whose purpose does it serve? why did China abolish DST in 1991? are the Chinese stupid, or are we?

~20191031~ recently i read A Book, which -- even though it did not tell me anything i didn't already know or suspect -- caused me to reassess, reconsider, and ultimately alter my online behavior.

~20191028~ The five stages of weaning yourself off of social media

~20191027~ happy to be back, writing raw html in vi, after having freed up some mental bandwidth. or, rather, after said bandwidth became available when i lost interest in facebook. i quit smoking in 1993, quit drinking in 2003, following many unsucessful attempts in both cases. the quitting didn't happen until i (seemingly overnight) lost interest in the activity. the same thing happened now with facebook. i have a feeling twitter is not far behind.

~20190927~ after the initial excitement about the revival of tilde.club, i am sobered up by the realization that i do not have the bandwidth for yet another 'thing'. so i'll pause my participation here for now, and hopefully return at a later time. Mostly Subjective is my occasionally-updated blog about tech and bikes and life. check it out.

~20190924~ happy birthday, my son!

~20190923~ back to work after two weeks off, spent on a different mind wavelength. possibly because of the break i'm surprisingly not drawn to Twitter as a source for industry news and gossip (which i have been for years), and not enticed to tweet thoughts or commentary or sarcastic quips. disgusted by politics, and muted or blocked all such talk accordingly.

~20190922~ finished a 57-mile bike ride (Twin Lights Ride, organized by Bike New York) at 4:10, an improvement of 12.7% over 2017.

~20190921~ feels great to "go back to the early days of the web". especially to the mindset of self-expression vs that of self-promotion that came later (for me, at least).

~20190917~ hacking this on an android emulator. back later on full keyboard.
